Liu Ying even tried going for alternative medication in Kelantan earlier this year, but it was evident in the 23-21, 17-21, 21-10 defeat of Indonesia’s Muhammad Rijal and Vita Marissa, that it isn’t working.
The longer Liu Ying waits before going for surgery could be detrimental to her career.
Asked if she thinks she can carry on playing without going under the knife, Liu Ying said: “Can we talk about this after the tournament? Right now, I feel it is quite tough after playing one match.
“I’m not sure how I’ll feel tomorrow or the next day. I didn’t play as well as I could as I was worried about my injury. Luckily Peng Soon covered for me.”
Peng Soon joked: “I usually cover for her so it was not a problem picking up her slack! If she doesn’t recover maybe I should start playing in the singles.”
On a more serious note, he added: “We have not made any plans or decide when our next tournament will be. She will have to consult the medical staff first and I hope she will be alright.”
