KOO
KIEN KEAT and Tan Boon Heong will most probably be going to the Myanmar
SEA Games if they fail to qualify for the BWF Super Series Finals,
hosted by Kuala Lumpur in December.
Currently ranked No. 5 in the world, they are only eighth in the Super Series standings with 24,980 points.
Only the top eight singles and pairs in respective categories will make
the cut for the season-ending tournament, and based on current form,
Koo-Tan, who were the inaugural champions back in 2008, are facing the
danger of missing out on qualification.
But the two upcoming
tournaments in Europe this month – Denmark Open (15-20) and French Open
(22-27) – can make the difference if they do well.
“Koo and
Tan’s (appearance in SEA Games) will depend on their results from the
forthcoming tournaments,” said Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM)
president, Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff, when asked on whether
the pair are being considered for the biennial Games.
“They have given assurance they will try (to qualify for BWF Super Series Finals).
